Beyond the Plaques

Beyond The Plaques is a short dance film commissioned by English Heritage and the National Youth Ballet, inspired by the lives and achievements of four pioneering women: sculptor Eleanor Coade, writer Frances Burney, poet Elizabeth Barrett Browning, and astronomer Annie Maunder. Through contemporary dance and film, the project explores their stories and the enduring importance of bringing overlooked women in history into the spotlight.

The film has been screened internationally and received numerous festival nominations and awards. Sofia Roubati’s score won Best Soundtrack at the International Istanbul Short Film Festival and the Budapest Short Cut Film Festival, and was nominated for Best Original Score at the 2025 International Sound & Film Music Festival.

Julia recorded four violin parts for the score, featured across all four chapters of the film.
