Jedno życie leskie
Jedno życie leskie (One Life in Lesko) is a theater production written and directed by Jarosław Figura, based on true events that took place in Lesko, Poland, during the Second World War. The play tells the story of Józef and Franciszka Zwonarz, recognised as Righteous Among the Nations, who risked their lives to shelter the family of Jewish physician Natan Wallach for over two years, hiding them beneath the floor of Józef’s mechanical workshop.
Presented in the historic Lesko Synagogue, the production used visual theatre and symbolism to explore themes of courage, humanity and solidarity in the face of persecution. Hazelnuts serve as the central theatrical medium, symbolically representing Polish and Jewish people while referencing the hazel tree associated with the town’s name.
Julia composed the original score specifically for the production, drawing on Jewish musical influences and combining them with atmospheric ambient textures, processed violin sounds and elements inspired by metal music.
